Prince Ernst August of Hanover and fashion designer Ekaterina Malysheva tied the knot this weekend. The pair actually wed in a small civil ceremony last week, but celebrated with the rest of Germany with a grand royal wedding affair a few days after.

Ekaterina Malysheva is originally from Russia, but moved to London when she was 19 to attend fashion school - which must have paid off as she now has her own label, EKAT. For her royal wedding, the designer opted for an opulent long-sleeved lace gown that was embellished with hundreds of pearls.

Ekaterina and Ernst met at a party in London six years ago, and the prince proposed on the couple's holiday to Greece.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Prince Ernst's father (also called Prince Ernst August) has publicly opposed the marriage of his son and Ekaterina "for financial reasons," suggesting tensions within the House of Hanover.
