Recent Mother's Day celebrations mean that many mothering figures in our lives were treated to a weekend of cards, flowers and presents.

For those with little ones, those presents can often be homemade gems, from artwork done at the kitchen table to edible gifts made with love.

One mum who received a delicious-looking cake whipped up by her kids was the Duchess of Cambridge.

The Duke and Duchess' social media accounts shared a snap of a Victoria Sponge cake filled with jam and buttercream, topped with sweets and sprinkles and decorated with love heart pipe cleaner design.

It was revealed the lovely cake had been made by Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

As well as honouring Kate by sharing her children's handiwork, the post also celebrated her mother Carole Middleton.

It shared a sweet throwback picture of a baby Kate with her mum, enjoying some time outdoors.

Recently, Carole described herself to Good Housekeeping as a 'hands on' grandmother.

"I want to run down the hills, climb the trees and go through the tunnel at the playground," she said. "As long as I am able to, that’s what I’ll be doing. I cook with them, I muck around dancing, we go on bike rides.”

The throwback and cake pictures followed on from a post by Kensington Royal earlier in the day which said: "Each year on Mother’s Day, George, Charlotte and Louis make cards remembering their Granny, Diana, for William", alongside images of thoughtful notes written by the children.
