Nearly four decades after Farrah Fawcett, Jaclyn Smith and Kate Jackson hair-flicked and high-kicked their way onto the small screens, a new generation of Charlie's Angels has been announced.

Twilight star Kristen Stewart will star in Elizabeth Banks' reboot of the Seventies classic. She'll be joined by English actresses Naomi Scott (known for appearing in 2017's Power Rangers and playing Jasmine in the forthcoming Aladdin live action film) and Ella Balinska, who is the daughter of Lorraine Pascale and is best known for playing Grace Briggs in Midsomer Murders and the titular role in Sky series Nyela's Dream.

Those hoping for a whiff of nostalgia may be disappointed. Banks, the acclaimed director of Pitch Perfect 2, will be directing, co-writing, producing and even starring (as Bosley) in a modern reinvention of the classic action film.

She said in a statement that "Charlie's Angels" is one of the original brands to celebrate the empowered woman, and that her film, due to be released in September 2019, "will introduce a new era of modern and global Angels".

The film follows the last Angels reboot which hit the silver screen in 2000, and starred Cameron Diaz, Lucy Liu and Nancy Junoven.
