Former Strictly Come Dancing star Gemma Atkinson has brushed off the "pregnancy police" after completing an emotional mountain hike.

The actress and her partner – professional dancer Gorka Marquez – announced that they were expecting their first child together in February.

Gemma recently posted a picture of herself having just climbed Mount Teide in Spain, and was quick to silence any of her social media followers who might disapprove of her actions while expecting.

The former Emmerdale star explained that the hike – which held a special significance for Gemma – involved different forms of transport and wasn't an uphill walk, reassuring fans that they have nothing to worry about.

"Last week me and Gorks climbed Mount Teide (it's a drive, cable car and flat walk before the pregnancy police start on me) I haven't been here since my dad passed away," she wrote.

"We used to come every year and do the hike so it was bitter sweet, but I know he somehow helped drag me up there."

Gemma announced that she was pregnant last month by posting an adorable picture of her dogs, saying that they will be "amazing big brothers" to the baby.

The pair met and ultimately became an item when Gemma was partnered up with Gorka's pal, Strictly pro Aljaž Skorjanec, on the BBC show in 2017, and have been sharing details about their romantic relationship on social media ever since.

In December last year, the couple moved in together in Manchester, with Gemma promising that she would teach her other half the Mancunian lingo.
