CBS News anchor Gayle King is on a serious assignment in Texas, covering the news of migrant families being separated at the United States borders. But while she’s there, she seems to have been inspired to share her experience with followers, including the behind the scenes of how she gets prepared for her evening news segments.
In a series of videos posted to Instagram, the 63-year-old candidly shared the chaos that goes into covering breaking news. From getting her makeup done in an airport, to finishing it up in a car on the way to a shoot, she jokes with people that “TV is glamorous, but this is an important story.” So important, that she had to improvise after finding out that she was staying in Texas another day, and needed another on-air outfit.
“I’ve just heard that I’m staying another day,” she said in the video. “I don’t have enough clothes, so I asked the driver, ‘Where could I go to get something affordable and cute?’ And he said Ross Dress for Less. So, here we are.”
Searching through the racks of the affordable duds at the department store, King seemed impressed with the chain’s selections. However, she’s even more pleased when she makes her final purchase of 5 dresses for $74, and decides to wear just one that costs only $14.99.
“That’s what you call a deal,” King says to followers, to which she’s being praised for “keeping it real.”
People throughout the comments are happy to see the successful news anchor in such a relatable way, as she shops in a budget-friendly manner. However, others are making sure not to neglect the reason she’s there in the first place.
“Thank you and @cbsnews for providing the extra time and attention to our state on this critical issue,” one person wrote. “People are watching!”
