Gavin & Stacey's Ruth Jones and Rob Brydon reunite for one-off sitcom

Gavin & Stacey co-stars Ruth Jones and Rob Brydon have reunited for a one-off sitcom.

The duo, who played Stacey's best friend Nessa and Stacey's uncle Bryn in the beloved series, will star in Gaynor & Ray, a 35-minute special which follows two 50-something newlyweds.

The special, which was announced during the Edinburgh TV Festival, depicts the new bride and groom on their honeymoon in the Scottish Highlands, "where they meet a variety of characters and situations".

The BBC synopsis continues, "And having only met six months ago, there are many things – not all of them endearing – that this couple keeps discovering about each other, often begging the question have they done the right thing?"

The episode was created by Jones and her husband David Peet, who said in a statement, "We're delighted to watch Gaynor & Ray come to life on screen. Through them we get to see the male and female take on life and relationships as well as the nonsense in the day-to-day."

Gregor Sharp, commissioning editor for the BBC, added that Jones and Brydon are "a match made in comedy heaven" and BBC officials "can't wait for everyone to see it." It has not been announced when the episode will air.

Gavin & Stacey, which was created by Jones and James Corden, ran for three series between 2007 and 2010, with two Christmas specials airing in 2008 and 2019.
