Gatwick Airport incident: Police board plane on runway due to 'security issue'

Jacob Jarvis

Police officers have boarded a plane on the runway at Gatwick Airport due to what passengers on board said had been called a "security threat".

Photos show emergency services by the jet as it sat on the tarmac this morning.

A video showed officers boarding the flight, with passengers on social media stating they had been told there was a "security issue".

A fire service vehicle was also at the scene.

There have been reports the runway has closed but that has not been confirmed.

Sussex Police, which covers the airport, was unable to provide the Standard with further details.

The Standard has also contacted Gatwick Airport and is awaiting further information.
