The 'Game Of Thrones' Cast Got A Standing Ovation During A Touching Farewell At The Emmys
Over the last decade, we’ve seen the cast of Game of Thrones gather on a ton of red carpets and a whole lot of stages. They’ve grown older—seriously, take a look at some photos of the younger cast members back in season one, they were literal infants—and the lineup has changed a lot (Richard Madden’s hitting awards shows, of course, but not with the Thrones gang).
But the nominated members of the cast, Kit Harington, Lena Headey, Alfie Allen, Gwendoline Christie, Emilia Clarke, Peter Dinklage, Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams, Carice van Houten, and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, all took the stage at Los Angeles’ Microsoft TheatereSunday night to present the award for best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series.
Before announcing Patricia Arquette as the winner, and before she gave a powerful acceptance speech memorialising her late sister Alexis and making an impassioned call for rights for trans people, the Thrones cast talked about their experiences on the much-beloved show.
"I think all of us agree how amazing the entire last season was for us," said Turner. "We had no idea how it would end, who would betray whom, and who would end up for the prize."
"As much was we wish the show could have gone on forever," continued Williams, "our time had come. And tonight is a chance to once again thank all of those who watched."
It was a touching sendoff, but don't worry—we'll see them all again soon enough. The Emmys are not over yet and Game of Thrones is poised to take home a whole bunch more trophies.
