A full Beaver Moon will light up the sky tonight

From Country Living

A full Beaver Moon will appear in the night sky this week, and it's definitely worth catching a glimpse.

November's full moon will light up the sky on the evening of Tuesday 12th November, beginning to shine at around 13:34pm GMT according to Time and Date.

"For keen observers with obstructed views, the best time to look at the full moon will be around midnight when it reaches its highest point in the sky. Those with unobstructed views towards the east can watch the full moon rise and make its journey across the night sky," Patricia Skelton, astronomer at the Royal Observatory Greenwich tells Country Living.

"A full moon is easily one of the most captivating sights in the night sky and not to be missed. This month’s full moon occurs on November 12th, so we hope for clear skies to spot our closest celestial neighbour shining brightly in the night sky," Patricia says.

Why is November's full moon called the Beaver Moon?

"The first full moon in November is often called the Beaver Moon because this is when some tribes would set their beaver traps to make sure they had plenty of fur to keep them warm during the winter months," Dhara Patel, Astronomer at the Royal Observatory Greenwich, told Country Living.

The phenomenon is also known as the Frost Moon, to coincide with the timing of the first frost of the season.
