Friends star David Schwimmer talks heartbreaking reason he joined Celeb Bake Off cast
Friends star David Schwimmer has opened up about his personal reasons for taking part in The Great British Bake Off's Stand Up To Cancer specials.
The actor is among a host of celebrities taking part in the upcoming specials, and explained in a new interview that as well as himself being a fan of the show, he sadly lost his grandmother and his ex-wife's mother to cancer, while his sister also battled the disease.
“I lost a grandmother to cancer, my daughter lost a grandmother to cancer and my sister is a cancer survivor, so it’s important to me," he told The Mirror.
“I am just grateful I can help in any small way [to] raise more awareness. I am here to have fun. I am here to raise money for a great charity. It’s a great cause and I happen to be a massive fan of the show.”
Alongside Schwimmer, the impressive names set to join Bake Off include Strictly Come Dancing stars AJ Odudu and Ellie Taylor, ex-Little Mix member Jesy Nelson, Loose Women's Coleen Nolan, Top Gear's Paddy McGuinness, TOWIE's Gemma Collins and Olympic diver Tom Daley.
Meanwhile, former celebrity Bake Off star Katherine Ryan recently opened up on why she won't return to the show, admitting there were many bees in the tent during her experience.
"Something they don’t tell you is there are a lot of bees in the tent," she said. "Because it’s outside and it’s so sweet in there. There’s lots of sugar and fondant, and lots of things that attract bees.
"Every time I would prepare one of my cakes, they’d come to take a shot of it and they’d have to get all bees off.
"I thought that bees would be featured in the programme. Sometimes you see like one or two bees but that thing’s full of bees, that tent."
The Great British Bake Off airs on Channel 4 in the UK. In the US, it's known as The Great British Baking Show, and streams on Netflix.
