Friends fans have just discovered the subtitles used for Janice Litman-Goralnik during the show and they're absolutely losing it over how brutal they are.

The subtitles were collated in a series of pictures by Instagram account @friendsmemesonly who spotted that when Janice (aka the most iconic character of all 10 seasons of the show) laughs the subtitles used are fairly savage.

The first two screengrabs show her talking with Chandler and later in Chandler and Joey's apartment and include the subtitles, "braying laughter' and "horselike giggles" respectively. Ouch.

Later scenes include subtitles reading, "machine-gun-fire-like laughter" and "hyena laugh." While it's clearly a bit of a stinger, it's also a fairly accurate description of the Janice's laugh - one of the aspects of the character that made her so loved by fans. Janice, who only appeared in 19 episodes across all seasons, was known for her obnoxious laugh, general lack of social awareness and of course, her iconic "OH MY GOD" catchphrase. Bet you read that in her voice.

Fans were all over the comments on the post, with many of them only realising for the first time how consistently brutal Janice's subtitles were.

"'Machine gun like laughter' always gets me", one person wrote, while another said "Nasally is my fave", and someone else commented, "This is hilarious. Plus, these pictures aren’t just pictures, I can clearly hear her laugh ahaha."

She's one of those supporting characters that fandoms wish had had more screen time, after she proved a hit when she was first brought in during season one as Chandler's girlfriend. Seems like we all just wanted more of that "hyena laugh".
