Another day another Friends continuity error. How we're still discovering them 27 years after the show first aired is beyond me, and yet here we are. This latest one is more shocking than Rachel-necklace-gate and more surprising than the Chandler's dad discovery, in fact it's a wonder we missed it.

The blunder was spotted by TikTok user @bronniiieee, who posted a clip of the scene in question along with the caption, "Who is THAT?"

The error occurs in episode 18 of series 8, The One in Massapequa, in which Ross and Rachel's parents, Jack and Judy Gellar, are throwing a party to celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary. The whole gang attends and while at the event Ross and a heavily pregnant Rachel discover that his parents have told family friends they're married, and expect them to keep up the lie.

During one scene, in which Ross, Rachel, Jack and Judy are talking, the camera cuts to focus on Ross and Rachel and you can clearly see that Jack Gellar has been replaced by an entirely different actor. It's not even a particularly close match; they're very different heights and one wears glasses while the other doesn't. But somehow, we didn't notice.

According to Digital Spy, there is actually a very reasonable explanation for the gaffe and it all has to do with the show landing on Netflix. The series was first filmed in 4:3 aspect ratio, which was the standard at the time. However, these days 16:9 is standard, so with the show now on Netflix viewers are now seeing the wide angle version of the show and all the secret stand-ins we were never meant to know about.
