Four things you need to do to stop germs and sickness coming into the house
A nanny has shared four musts for making sure you don’t bring home any germs or risk getting sick. Danielle Anne Manton-Kelly, also known as The Enchanted Nanny on social media, urged the public to do four things to stop spreading outside germs in a recent TikTok video.
These small changes can be made to your daily routine, making sure you stop seasonal sickness bugs from happening to you and your family. The first is as simple as removing your shoes when you come home.
She explained: “The first one is a huge one: take your shoes off when you come into your house and put them away.”

The Enchanted Nanny explained that the reason she is “fretful” about removing shoes as soon as she goes indoors is because of an experience her son had at nursery. During a parent-teacher conference, her son became ill and vomited, which the staff cleaned up.
However, Danielle explained the staff, who cleaned everything as best as they could, missed a few spots. Although the area would be cleaned at the end with industrial cleaner, just five minutes after her son vomited, people were walking past due to the area being a public space.
She said: “All I can think about is all those people now have traces of some kind of horrible gastroenteritis bug on their shoes and if they’re not taking their shoes off when they get home, that’s then being transmitted.
“And if they have babies, you can imagine the babies are rolling around on the floor, their floor is covered in trace germs, and it just keeps perpetuating the cycle. So please take your shoes off when you get home.”
Next is changing the clothes you’ve been wearing outside all day. Danielle advised changing into some comfy loungewear.
She said: “You’re going to feel great, but you’ll also be wearing clothes that don’t have the day’s bacteria on them. Put those clothes straight in the wash this season, or if you’re trying to be more environmentally friendly, just give them a spray down with some antibacterial spray that is clothing-friendly.”
Her third must is washing your hands immediately after you get home. “When you get home, give them a really good scrub,” she explained.
“Make sure that you’ve gotten rid of all of the day’s germs. And I mean a good ‘happy birthday’ scrub, okay? Like wash those hands, and get everyone in your family to do it, too.”
Lastly, when it comes to cleaning your home, The Enchanted Nanny advised using antibacterial spray on all surfaces. She even recommended spraying light switches, door handles.
Danielle said: “These are the things that are going to keep your house just that little bit safer.”
