Tommy Robinson, the former leader of the far-right English Defence League, has been filmed repeatedly punching a man in the head at Ascot.

The activist, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, was caught on a coach’s dash cam pushing the man to the ground at the race meeting.

Robinson, who is seen wearing a black suit and shirt, throws several punches at the man before three others step in to break up the fight.

In a tweet, Robinson said that he had been acting in “self defence” — something that has since been denied by the coach driver, Asif Idris, according to the Mirror.

Robinson has since released a video on a phone call with a man called Asif, which he says proves that he didn’t start the fight.

In the video the man is heard saying “he comes up behind you… he follows you from the coach.”

The fight video was tweeted by journalist Assed Baig and picked up by Piers Morgan, who called Robinson a “bigoted lunatic” on Good Morning Britain last week.

Morgan tweeted: “Tommy Robinson hates Islam because he says it’s a ‘violent’ religion. Here’s Mr Robinson at Ascot yesterday.”

Responding to the original tweet by Baig, Robinson said: “Your eye witness is a Muslim ????????????”

He then added: “Some context to the video released today, I will release a full video later. This is the Muslim coach driver who released the vid”

Earlier in the month, Tommy Robinson provoked fury following the Finsbury Park mosque attack”.

The far-right activist tweeted that the place of worship “has a long history of creating terrorists and radical jihadists”.

He later responded to criticism, adding: “Facts are facts. I didn’t create this mosque’s history.”

Robinson was referring to the Finsbury Park Mosque, which has won an award for stamping out extremism. The terrorist attack actually occurred at the nearby Muslim Welfare House.
