Former EastEnders star Melissa Suffield had a rush to hospital after injuring her ankle at home.

Suffield, who played Lucy Beale between 2004 and 2010 before being replaced with Hetti Bywater, revealed to her fans on social media that she had 'busted' her ankle in the garden.

In a series of posts across her Instagram Stories, Suffield detailed her injury and multiple hospital trips to try and found out how badly damaged her ankle was.

Explaining the issues in getting seen by a doctor, Suffield wrote: "No taxis available at all, and also no X-ray unit on the weekends at the tiny urgent care centre nearby (and I suspect I may need one as it's very difficult to bear weight on it and it's a bit bruised and quite numb). So I'm no very excited to spend the heatwave in a minor injuries unit on a Monday morning if it's not better now."

Suffield later updated her followers on the extent of her injury: "No bone injury. So basically RICE, and keep it extra cool in this heat as it is MEGA swollen still. She said 'hopefully see some improvement and normal walking in 4 weeks'."

She also praised the NHS for examining her: "Also for all their uselessness on a weekend, I was checked in, seen by minor injuries, xrayed, seen by minor injuries again, and discharged in under and hour. Excellent work all round."

After being axed from EastEnders, Suffield had a three episode arc on Doctors, appeared as Marilyn Monroe in a musical about the late actor and has performed in pantomimes.

Suffield is also a social media influencer with a focus on body positivity and motherhood. She also has a blog about being a parent.
