Former EastEnders star Danny Dyer criticises storylines as he explains why he left
Former EastEnders star Danny Dyer has revealed why he decided to leave the BBC soap.
The actor made his dramatic exit as Mick Carter last Christmas, with his character seemingly drowning at sea while trying to save his wife Linda.
Opening up about the reason behind his departure during an "in conversation" event in London on Monday (September 25), Dyer said he felt like the soap's standards were beginning to drop towards the end of his tenure.

"The first few years we f**king smashed it. It was powerful shit. The viewers listened to us more than these f**king c* politicians," he began (via The Sun).
The Heat actor continued: "I was blessed with some amazing storylines, some shite ones as well. They f**ked it up towards the end. It's a shame it had to come to an end but I'd f**king had enough."
Dyer also took aim at some of his former co-stars, though he did so without naming any names.
"I’ve worked with a lot of actors that are c***s, very selfish, it's all about them," he said. "You need to look after your other actors. It's about teamwork and looking after each other."

This isn't the first time Dyer has thrown shade at his former colleagues.
During an appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show earlier this year, Dyer was asked if there were any EastEnders co-stars he wouldn't miss.
"There's a few of them actually, I ain't going to lie," he said. "I won't say [who], you know. Most of them, I love dearly. Not all…"
He also previously admitted that he felt like his character had "lost his way", adding: "I didn't quite know who I was playing anymore, it was a really odd thing."
