Failing to store food correctly and dirty floors were just some of the issues found when a football club was visited by a hygiene inspector.
Kings Langley AFC at The Orbital Fasteners Stadium in Hempstead Road was given a 1/5 score following its July 19 inspection.
The full report was released to the Watford Observer on Monday, October 2.
A spokesperson for the club said: “We have already completed work on our external food van and are now planning work to be undertaken in our bar and main kitchen.”
The inspector found that burgers were being stored in the fridge despite the manufacturer’s instructions, which states they must be stored -18C.
Used bottles of sauce were also found stored in a cupboard when they should have been stored in the fridge once open.
However, the inspector did say in the report that raw, cooked, and ready to eat food were kept separate.
The inspector found several holes in the kitchen ceiling, damage to the kitchen walls and paint flaking.
In addition, the floor cupboards in the catering van were found in a poor state of repair, the paint was peeling, and mould was found.
The floor covering in the catering van was described by the inspector a “dirty, especially at floor/wall junctions and behind or below equipment”.
Both the floor and worktop were deemed to be “damaged” and the inspector called for them to be replaced and left in a condition easy to clean.
In addition, a food safety management system was not found to be in place and the eatery was told it must include one based on the HACCP principles.
Despite the areas of improvement needed, the inspector outlined that personal hygiene was satisfactory because protective clothing and head coverings were being used.
In a bid to improve the club’s rating, Kings Langley’s award-winning eatery, The Kitchen at Inspire, was drafted in to help.
The club’s spokesperson added: “Once again thanks to the help of Adam at Inspired.”
In July, The Kitchen at Inspire won the ‘Best Boutique Coffee Shop 2023 – Hertfordshire SME Customer Service Excellence Award’ in the UK Enterprise Awards 2023.
