The Flash is definitely bringing back original cast member Robbie Amell later this season. We're just wondering who he'll be playing.

In a bit of surprising news for DC TV fans, Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that Amell will appear in at least one winter episode coming up… but not necessarily as the heroic Ronnie Raymond.

The husband of STAR Labs scientist Caitlin Snow (Danielle PanabAker), Ronnie Raymond was formerly one-half of the fused superhero Firestorm with Martin Stein (Victor Garber) and died saving Central City from a time paradox.

However, last season introduced to both Caitlin and Ronnie's evil Earth-2 dopplegangers - Killer Frost and Deathstorm - when The Flash traveled between worlds.

Even that tidbit doesn't exactly solve the mystery of Ronnie Raymond's return, since Deathstorm was also killed off when he defied his sadistic speedster boss Zoom.

Since the DC TV universe encompasses the Multiverse, it's not impossible for Robbie Amell to be playing a totally different version of Ronnie Raymond or possibly even a new character.

While there are lots of questions surrounding Robbie's return to The Flash, we do know that the winter episodes will introduce Sleepy Hollow's Jessica Camacho as new STAR Labs ally Gypsy.

According to star Carlos Valdes, Gypsy will play a key role in helping Cisco Ramon control his unpredictable Vibe powers.

The Flash will return to The CW on Tuesday, January 24 at 8pm ET in the US. Sky1 airs the show in the UK.
