The vast majority of accommodation in Flaine and the lower villages is in apartments, some of which are very smart with pools, saunas and hot tubs. Hotels are few and far between but there are some enticing ones.

Hotel Le Flaine

In Flaine Forum, a 200m walk from the pistes, Hotel Le Flaine is run by the French MMV group, it’s family-friendly with basic bedrooms and childcare facilities, and meals are served buffet-style. There’s a spa area with steam room, two hot tubs and sauna. From £480, with Crystal Ski.

La Forêt

Located 100m from the nearest piste and lift, Pierre et Vacances La Forêt in Flaine Forêt offers clean and convenient no-frills apartments. From £590, self-catering, for a one-bedroom apartment sleeping up to four, excluding travel, with Erna Low.

Le Centaure

Well-furnished apartments right by the main gondola out of Flaine Forum. Le Centaure has a ski-in/ski-out roof terrace and a spa with indoor pool, children’s pool, hot tub, sauna, steam room and fitness room. From £1,098, self-catering, for a one-bedroom apartment sleeping up to four, including Eurotunnel crossing, with Ski Collection.

Les Terrasses d’Helios

The most recently built of the Montsoleil area apartments and the nearest to the centre of Flaine, around 500m away. Les Terrasses d’Helios is right beside a piste and has spacious, well-furnished apartments with an on-site restaurant, ski rental shop, laundrette and mini‑supermarket with bakery. There’s an indoor pool, sauna, two steam rooms, outdoor hot tub, fitness room and five spa treatment rooms. Hotel Terminal Neige Totem

One of the original hotels in Flaine Forum, Hotel Terminal Neige Totem was taken over and renovated in 2015 by the Sibuet family, who also run very smart hotels in Megève, Val Thorens and the south of France – this is the first of their Terminal Neige brand of three-star ski hotels, and is the smartest Flaine has on offer. With modern furniture and woollen fabrics in ethnic patterns, the 96 rooms and suites are personally designed and furnished by Jean-Louis and Nicolas Sibuet. There’s a gym, sauna and outdoor hot tub, and spa treatments are available. From £1,039, with Inghams.

Les Servages d’Armelle

In Les Carroz, this four-star hotel is the smartest in the Grand Massif ski area, right on the piste, with great views of the mountains and a short walk to the village. Les Servages d’Armelle is beautifully built in traditional chalet style using old wood inside and out. Many of the spacious rooms and suites have their own fireplaces and Jacuzzi baths. The restaurant is one of the best in the Grand Massif area and has two Gault-Millau toques, serving classic French cuisine and Savoyarde specialities.
