It's been a hot minute since we embraced our mates. In England, hugging anyone outside of your household or bubble has been banned since March 2020. But with the latest easing of lockdown restrictions on 17 May, dubbed Freedom Day, hugging friends and family has been made legal, along with indoor pints and overseas travel.
While you're no doubt glad to put more than a year of awkward greetings behind you, you'll also want an impressive chest to do it with. Your pecs are your main hugging muscles, so before you begin dishing them out left, right and centre, it's worth learning a couple of new moves to pump out them out.
To help you out, our fitness editor, Andrew Tracey, has selected five alternative chest exercises to add to your chest-day arsenal and get your pecs seriously pumped. You'll find the moves below. Before you hurry off to watch, just one word of warning. When it comes to your chest, smashing out fast reps is unlikely to deliver the muscle-building stimulus your chest requires. A study published in The Journal of Physiology found that slow, controlled lifts performed to fatigue resulted in greater rates of muscle growth than the same movement performed rapidly. So go slow, go steady, and go for huge pecs.
