One fitness Instagrammer is on a mission to show her fans that the bodies we admire aren’t always as perfect as they look on social media. Sara Puhto posted a photo on her Instagram demonstrating how artful posing can give you a “Kardashian booty.”

“I thought I’d show my booty from its normal straight-leg standing position vs. a posed booty pop position, ’cause in a world where the Kardashians’ booties are so glorified, we need to remember that the photos we see of them and others aren’t always reality,” the 20-year-old wrote.

Even Puhto is perplexed by the family’s famously generous booties. “Their butts can’t ALWAYS look that big from every angle,” she wrote. She encourages her fans to look critically while scrolling through their social media feeds too. “Same goes with photos on Instagram; we see them as goals and think we’ll never be able to gain that much muscle or lose that much fat, but what you need to remember is that those photos you see are achievable, you can get to your goals, you can achieve anything with the right amount of determination, patience and effort! Don’t think you can’t because you’re comparing a posed photo of a body to your everyday body. Use them as motivation but don’t get too caught up on them.”

While the movement toward embracing curves is definitely positive, it is mostly limited to people with hourglass shapes like the Kardashians. Puhto wants her followers to know that every body type can be beautiful and should be celebrated.

After undergoing scoliosis surgery in 2010, she had experienced a major lapse in body confidence. “Ever since the surgery I’ve always thought I looked different to everyone else. I didn’t have any feminine curves, looked disgusting and deformed and if I didn’t have this surgery then at least I’d still have some curves on one side and I would feel more feminine,” Puhto wrote. “That doesn’t matter anymore. I love my noncurved waist, and I’ll continue to love it. I won’t compare my body to anyone else’s and say I wish I had their curves. Yes, they are beautiful, but so am I.”

Puhto is open with her fans about her bad body image days too. She’s adamant that everybody has them, and she doesn’t want her fitness progress photos to demoralize the people who look to her for inspiration. When she’s feeling bloated, her fans get to see that — and they definitely relate, showering her with thousands of encouraging likes and comments.
