Love Actually star Keira Knightley and Downton Abbey's Matthew Goode have reunited after The Imitation Game and Official Secrets for a dystopian dark Christmas comedy titled Silent Night.

The film – for which you can watch the first trailer above – sees the duo play a couple named Nell and Simon, with Jojo Rabbit's Roman Griffin Davis as their son Art.

There's some sort of dark mist/tornado outside that kills people, and it feels like the end of the world is inevitable.

That doesn't stop them from hosting a Christmas dinner with old friends coming over to visit, and having to deal with all the typical things British people especially hate about the festive season: someone getting too drunk, arguments over politics, whether to watch the Queen's Speech or not... that sort of thing.

There's also the whole 'end of the world' situation, which will feel very familiar for practically everyone at the moment.

As well as the main trio, the cast also includes Ṣọpé Dìrísù (The Huntsman: Winter's War, Gangs of London), Lily-Rose Depp (The King, Voyagers), Kirby Howell-Baptiste (The Good Place, Killing Eve), Lucy Punch (Bad Teacher, A Series of Unfortunate Events), Annabelle Wallis (Peaky Blinders) and Rufus Jones (Episodes, Camping).

The film's darkly comic take on Christmas has won it some positive early reviews, as well as the Best Screenplay award and the Audience Award at the 2021 Sitges Film Festival, so we think it's one worth checking out.

Silent Night is released in UK and Irish cinemas on December 3, 2021, while you can purchase it digitally from December 6.
