The first trailer for Andrew Scott's acclaimed new movie All of Us Strangers has been released.

The anticipated new film from Weekend and Looking's Andrew Haigh also co-stars Paul Mescal, and premiered last month to rave reviews, currently standing at a 94% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The movie, which is based on the novel Strangers by Taichi Yamada, stars the respective Sherlock and Aftersun actors as two men who live in the same apartment block and develop a relationship.

The emotional teaser gives a look at the two's growing intimacy, while Scott's character Adam returns to his childhood home. There, present-day Adam interacts with his parents (Claire Foy and Jamie Bell), who died 30 years prior.

"It's funny, it doesn't take much to make you feel the way you felt back there again," Adam tells Mescal's Harry at one point.

The first reviews noted how All of Us Strangers explores the topic of loss in a heartbreaking way, with The Hollywood Reporter noting the film "has qualities that have always been there in Haigh's work — a keen perceptiveness about human nature, desire, fear, loss and the restorative power of connection".

In Variety's review, they said that "Haigh takes the hetero source material and reconfigures it around his unapologetically gay protagonist, downplaying the supernatural elements while adding a uniquely queer emotional core".

In a five-star review, The Guardian added: "Opinions may be divided over the film's final scene, whether it takes this drama too far into another (familiar) genre and whether the scenes in which we've made such a tearful emotional investment have merely been misdirection. But what tremendous performances from all four."

All of Us Strangers will be released in the UK on January 26, 2024, and in the US on December 22, 2023.
