A first look at Line of Duty star Kelly Macdonald in new movie Typist Artist Pirate King has been revealed.

The project, which was first announced back in 2021, sees the actress team up with writer-director Carol Morley, who is behind the likes of Out of Blue and Dreams of a Life.

The movie focuses on real-life artist Audrey Amiss (played by Empire of Light's Monica Dolan), who wasn't properly recognised until after her death, as she takes a fictionalised road trip with her mental health carer Sandra (Macdonald).

It will document the two women's blossoming friendship, and reconstructs real events and dialogue from letters and diaries in what is being described as "a funny, poignant journey of sweet liberation, feisty confrontation and a reckoning with the past".

In a first-look picture (above), we see Macdonald in character as Sandra, smiling as she holds up a series of photos of herself with Audrey.

"The dynamic between Monica Dolan and Kelly Macdonald is electric, funny and joyous. Carol Morley's distinct direction strikes the perfect balance between the humour and the realities of Audrey Amiss's life," producer Cairo Cannon previously said in a statement.

"Thanks to our superb cast and collaborators, Morley's Typist Artist Pirate King is set to be a must-see British road movie."

The movie also stars My Policeman's Gina McKee, with The Power of the Dog director Jane Campion among the executive producers.

Typist Artist Pirate King will show at the Glasgow Film Festival on March 8 and 9. Line of Duty is streaming on BBC iPlayer, and DVD and Blu-ray boxsets are also available to buy now.
