Call the Midwife's Jenny Agutter joins Gavin & Stacey star Sheridan Smith for the The Railway Children Return, a sequel to the classic 1970 film adaptation of the E Nesbitt novel, and now the first image of it has been revealed.

Released by Studiocanal to mark the end of filming, the image sees (from left to right) Beau Gadsdon as Lily, Eden Hamilton as Pattie, Sheridan Smith as Annie, Austin Haynes as Thomas, Zac Cudby as Ted, KJ Aikens as Abe and Jenny Agutter as Bobbie laughing in a field.

Call the Midwife star Jenny is reprising her role from the 1970 film version, which also starred Doctor Who alumni Bernard Cribbins. But did you know that she also played Roberta in a 1968 TV adaptation, and the mother in another TV version from 2000? There's a multiverse-spanning film idea right there.

As well as the pictured cast, the film will star Tom Courtenay (the Dad's Army movie) and Game of Thrones' John Bradley.

The sequel will follow a group of children who are evacuated to a Yorkshire village during World War II. The film is said to bring a "contemporary sensibility" to the story.

The original 1970 film was recently released on Blu-ray, while the sequel is scheduled for an April 1, 2022 release in cinemas.
