First Dates Hotel episode with Duncan James didn't actually feature his date

Weeks after S Club 7's Paul Cattermole appeared on Channel 4's First Dates Hotel and was very much friend-zoned, Blue singer Duncan James had his turn tonight (October 3). Did he fare better?

The star, who has spoken before about how he hid his sexuality while in the group, went on what he described as his first public date as an openly gay man.

"I had a big female following," he said. "I had a lot of mums telling me they wanted to do all this stuff with me, which was quite a lot!

"I come from a generation of boybands where there was a closeted gay member. I was that closeted gay member... I'm getting to that point in my life where I'm ready for someone special. I've never gone out and dated a guy in the public eye, I've always been very private so this is a big step for me."

So how did the 'I Believe My Heart' hitmaker and Innocent Drinks advert star do on his date with Joao?

Well, we didn't actually get to see the date.

The show cut to credits when Duncan revealed he actually knew his date, and then announced that we'll see Duncan as well as a host of other famous faces try and find love next time. Don't worry, though – it's all for the very good cause of Stand Up to Cancer.

First Dates Hotel airs Thursdays at 9pm on Channel 4.
