A fire wrecked home in 'Wales' most beautiful valley' is going up for auction
A shell of a former pretty stone detached house nestled into a stunning lakeside location but severely damaged by fire is going to auction with a guide price of £150,000. Described as a nature lover's location, Llyn Gwynant is found in the heart of the Eryri Snowdonia National Park at the base of Yr Wyddfa, (Snowdon) in Nant Gywnant, considered by Visit Wales to be "Wales' most beautiful valley".
Hidden away in an elevated position above the lake and accessed from the main road that meanders through the valley towards Yr Wyddfa, the house offers breathtaking and far-reaching, panoramic views across the water towards the world famous mountain as well as access to the Watkin Path, one of six main routes to the summit.

From the property there is a right of way to wander down to the lake too, according to the estate agent selling the property at auction. In addition the sale comes with about 3.52 acres of private land, the majority of which is mature woodland.
Immersed in nature with exceptional views across the woodland and lake, the house is on the edge of the small hamlet of Nant Gwynant and the larger village of Beddgelert is only about four miles away. Although the house feels like it is a secluded retreat, hidden away from the rest of the world, the sweeping, private driveway leads down to the A498.
The detached property, called Glan Gwynant, was once a five-bedroom rural retreat, offering an unrivalled and rarely available location looking out across the lake and the Eryri national park landscape, before it was sadly ravaged by fire.
The agent selling it via property auction as a total renovation project describes it as 'now in need of complete renovation with only the external stone walls remaining in place'. The agent also states that the vendor has informed them that the property previously benefited from mains water, electricity and drainage.
According to property portal Rightmove the property was last sold in August 2001 for £235,000. Website The Move Market, unaware of the recent fire fate of the property, describe the house as being in a sought-after area and the most expensive house in the postcode, and now valued at £777,000.
The property and land comes with ample private parking, some stone outbuildings, and numerous private paths that amble through the woodland accompanied by views of the lake. Once the renovation is complete or a new property is constructed on the site, subject to planning consent, the property would offer a stunning place to call home, or to welcome guests to this Welsh tourist hot spot to stay - or both.
The auction for this extreme renovation project located in an extremely stunning spot in the heart of Wales is being held at the St Asaph Cricket Club, The Roe, St Asaph on Wednesday, December 4 2024, at 6.30pm with Jones Peckover, Denbigh.
The property is no longer available to view as the allocated days and times have been completed, as potential buyers need to be accompanied by the agent at the site, so anyone tempted by this auction lot will have to bid on it without having been to the site. Call Jones Peckover, Denbigh on 01745 812127 to find out more but be quick, this rare renovation house will soon change owners when it goes under the hammer.
