The UK is currently facing the driest start to year since 1976 and many places are on high alert for fires after hot conditions have left the ground tinderbox dry.

The temperature could reach as high as 30 degrees in Cumbria this weekend.

The Fire and Rescue service have told members of the public to dispose of cigarette ends responsibly to not fire up a BBQ or light fires in rural areas and to take your rubbish home at the end of the day.

In the current climate a small fire can spread quickly to have devastating consequences on the surrounding areas.

Cumbria Fire and Rescue service have advised people that if they spot a fire – no matter how small – go to a safe place and call 999 as soon as possible.
