When it comes to cast iron cookware, only a few brands are known for delivering quality products no matter what. Field Company is one of those brands.

Field Company is known for its pioneering cast iron products and its wealth of knowledge in maintaining these long-lasting cookware items. The brand recently revealed a new product in its lineup: a lightweight Dutch oven that boasts Field Company’s signature smooth, seasoned interior finish and touted as “the lightest, smoothest cast iron Dutch oven.”

The limited-release item comes with a self-basting cast iron lid and is factory seasoned for what is described as a truly non-stick finish. It holds 4.5 quarts which makes it the ideal size for everyday use — from baking to braising.

It’s no secret that Dutch ovens are heavy. In fact, most standard 4.5 quart dutch ovens can be a bit of a hassle to move and carry given their overall weight. For instance, this option from popular brand Le Creuset weighs 9.6 pounds. By comparison, the new Field Company Dutch oven, also measuring at 4.5 quarts, weighs just 6.5 pounds, ringing true to its claim of being one of the lightest on the market.

Due to its relatively lighter weight and form factor, the vessel can be more easily transferred from the stovetop to the oven or table with ease. Its size is also particularly perfect for use in smaller apartments and kitchens with limited space.

Like any other cast iron cookware item, this product should not be placed in the dishwasher. Instead, it should be hand-washed only and dried promptly afterwards to preserve its seasoning and non-stick coating.

Because the Field Cast Iron Dutch Oven was just released today, there are currently no customer reviews just yet. But, based on the overwhelming number of five-star ratings the brand’s cast iron skillets have amassed (over 1,700 to date), it’s expected that this new lightweight option will sell out quickly.

Keep in mind that this item is described as a “limited run,” so we recommend snagging one before the item it’s gone.
