However, these two roles were precisely the ones who marked Mara Wilson’s life, leading to her retirement at a young age after experiencing what it was like to grow up in Hollywood. She told PEOPLE: “I had good experiences there, but I always knew there were girls much prettier than I was, and I knew that I was always competing with them. Jake Lloyd
The adorable kid who played a young Anakin Skywalker in ‘Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace’ disappeared from the public eye after appearing in the 1999 sci-fi prequel. Lloyd was bullied by other kids in school after the movie so he decided to retire from acting. Lloyd has struggled with mental health issues ever since and it was in 2020 that his mother released a statement giving some info on her son. It read: "He has moved closer to his family, and we are all working hard to help him with this. He is still a kind and caring person and we hope to have him back to his fun and entertaining self as soon as possible.” - 4/11

Angus T. Jones portrayed Jake in smash hit American sitcom ‘Two and a Half Men’, earning millions up millions for the role. Once the show ended in 2015, Angus decided he was done with acting. Angus also found Christianity and he found that the lewd comedy of 'Two and a Half Men' and the morals of Hollywood didn't sit well with hew newfound faith. In 2012 he even appeared in a controversial video on Alabama-based religious group Forerunners Chronicles’ YouTube channel. In the clip, Angus - who at the time was still a ‘Two and a Half Men’ cast member - said: “I’m not okay with what I’m learning, what the Bible says, and being on that television show. Actor Freddie Prinze Jr. retired from acting following his work in ‘24’, due to his frustrations with the action show's main star Kiefer Sutherland, describing him as “the most unprofessional dude in the world". In an interview with ABC News, Freddie said: "That's not me talking trash, I'd say it to his face. I think everyone that's worked with him has said that." Connery didn't enjoy the experience shooting Stephen Norrington's blockbuster and decided that modern Hollywood was not for him. In an interview with GQ magazine, he said: "I was fed up of dealing with idiots. For years there has been a widening gap between people who can make films and people who can't. Too many people are afraid to say, 'I don't know.' They get in and out quick and too many don't know what they are doing."
