My favorite summer sandals are just $23 at Target

Yahoo Lifestyle would like to introduce you to #TheCurrent, a column by fashion editor Julie Tong, in which she gives her stamp of approval to some of the latest fashion products and launches.

Searching for the perfect pair of summer sandals is no easy “feat,” not even for a fashion editor like myself. Every year, my criteria are the same: comfort, style, and versatility. To my surprise, my search came to an quick conclusion when a co-worker asked me which color to buy of a particular pair of satin slides. As soon as I saw the shoes, I knew I had to have them.

The sandals are called Stacia knotted satin slide sandals and they’re made by A New Day, one of Target’s newly launched, in-house private labels. They feature a soft flat sole base, easy slip-on-slide structure, and an elegant satin knot up top that ties the whole shoe together. They are available in three vibrant shades: mustard yellow, emerald green, and a deep navy. The best part? They cost only $23.

That same day, without hesitation, I went online and ordered them in all three colors. It’s important to disclose that Zara had released a carbon copy of these sandals a year ago (which I also bought). They were my favorite sandals then too, but unfortunately they didn’t survive the summer. I always regretted not buying more than one pair. As fate would have it, when I saw that Target was issuing its own version, I didn’t need to think twice.

Both these knotted satin slides and Zara’s are actually budget-friendly versions to the Row’s, which first debuted during spring 2016. Since then, we’ve seen similar high-end iterations released by Tabitha Simmons and No. 21, which cost upwards of a few hundred dollars, but Target’s version is still undeniably chic and affordable.

I love these sandals for many reasons. As I mentioned earlier, my summer sandals need to be versatile. These slides fill the bill, pairing well with every summer outfit I have, whether it’s a maxi gingham dress for work, a slit denim midi skirt and blouse for the weekend, or a simple LBD for date night.

Comfort is also important, and these make the perfect commuter shoes. I’ve worn these slides traveling to and from work, which takes on average 45 minutes to an hour and includes a 15-minute walk to and from the subway. Never once did they hurt my feet.

They’re also stylish and practical. I’ve taken them with me on trips to upstate New York and Miami, and let me say, they are great travel shoes, easy to pack and easy to slip on and off going through airport security. Plus, I didn’t have to double up on packing footwear because I knew they would match with all of my outfits.

If you’re still not convinced, let me say that the excitement about these shoes doesn’t begin and end with me. I attended a press dinner shortly after I purchased the shoes, and before I even realized it, a guest pointed out that I matched with the publicist organizing the event, who had on the same green slides. We quickly gushed about how much we loved the shoes and had to document our #twinning moment for social media (as one does).
