Fate: The Winx Saga season 3 has sadly been cancelled by Netflix: All the details

Netflix's Fate: The Winx Saga has had us gripped thanks to its impressive magic, juicy romances and just general brilliance.

After two seasons dropped on the streaming platform, fans were excitedly looking ahead to a potential season three. However, showrunners have now announced that Fate: The Winx Saga has sadly been cancelled, meaning we won't be getting a third season after all. *Cries*. Here are all the details...

When was Fate: The Winx Saga season 3 cancelled?

Show creator Brian Young took to Instagram on 1 November to confirm that Fate: The Winx Saga season three won't be going ahead.

He told followers, "Hi All! So this is not fun news to share, but Netflix have decided not to move forward with season three of Fate: The Winx Saga."

Young went on to acknowledge how much fans had loved the recent second season, calling the fact a "heartbreaking silver lining."

He went on, "I'm so proud of everyone who worked on the show, and so happy we got to tell the stories we did. Our cast and crew put in a ton of hard work creating this world and these characters. I'm grateful for each and every one of them, and for all of you for watching." Literally gutted.

Still, Young did offer some kind of hope for the series potentially being resurrected later down the line. He added, "It's been an amazing four years. Hopefully we'll see each other again in the future! So much love."

Don't break our hearts, Brian!

What have cast members said about Fate: The Winx Saga season 3?

Prior to the show being cancelled, the Fate: The Winx Saga cast opened up about their thoughts surrounding a potential season three.

Speaking about what they'd love to see for their characters going forward, Abigail Cowen who plays Bloom, told Cosmopolitan UK in the above interview, "I'd like to meet Bloom's birth parents. Finally meet her birth parents! That would be really great. And just to see her be happy. Go to therapy? I'd like to see her come into her own, fully come into her own, and start to use these powers for complete good. And be the best fire fairy there is."

Precious Mustaph, who plays Aisha added, "I'd like to explore Aisha's goals a bit more, because she's mentioned her plans for the future. I'd love to explore that. I'd also quite like to see her family and meet her parents. That would be really fun."

Could there be more from Fate: The Winx Saga in the future?

For now, it seems pretty clear that Fate: The Winx Saga season three isn't happening. However, we're keeping an open mind when it comes to spin-offs, prequels, or maybe even further sequels later down the line.

If that's the case, we'd hope to see our lead cast members returning in some capacity. That's:

  • Chilling Adventures of Sabrina star Abigail Cowen as Bloom

  • Hannah van der Westhuysen as Stella

  • The Stranger star Precious Mustapha as Aisha

  • Eliot Salt as Terra

  • Elisha Applebaum as Musa

  • Sadie Soverall as Beatrix

  • Freddie Thorp as Riven

  • Danny Griffin as Sky

As for what else could happen in the future, it's hard to know for sure - though we have the show's general synopsis to go off:

"Fate: The Winx Saga follows the coming-of-age journey of five fairies attending Alfea, a magical boarding school in the Otherworld where they must learn to master their powers while navigating love, rivalries, and the monsters that threaten their very existence. From creator Brian Young (The Vampire Diaries), Fate: The Winx Saga is a live-action reimagining of the Italian cartoon series Winx Club by Iginio Straffi.""

Most recently, fans began speculating on a new budding romance for two characters. The official Instagram account of Fate: The Winx Saga released a *very* flirtatious clip of Riven and Musa from season 2, with fans hoping we'd see the pair get closer in any future instalments.

Captioning the post: "do you sense a certain *tension*" users have been commenting their theories that is a hookup on the horizon. "Let’s make this *tension* a *relationship*" one said, as someone else typed: "We need #Rivusa!!!!🔥"

Hey, could a Rivusa spin-off be on the cards? We can dream.
