- Wife of Prince William, Duke of Cambridge
Following in the footsteps of her late mother-in-law Princess Diana, who earned the nickname the People's Princess, Kate Middleton has proven once again that she's just like us.
As we already know, despite being the future Queen (albeit a consort), Kate was raised a 'commoner' meaning she grew up without any titles. It makes sense then, that when a series of portraits were released to celebrate her 40th birthday on 9 January, fans couldn't help but notice the subtle detail that highlights just how 'normal' she really is.
ICYMI, earlier this week Kensington Palace shared three portraits to mark the Duchess of Cambridge's milestone 40th birthday. The images were taken in November last year at London's Kew Gardens by photographer Paolo Roversi, and while Kate looks incredibly glamorous in all three, it's the second image (in which Kate channels Hollywood glam in a stunning red dress) that has got fans talking.
"You know dress pockets are a big deal when even the Duchess of Cambridge herself uses them in her official portrait. 'This dress has POCKETS! Get it in the pic!'" one fan wrote on Twitter, referencing everyone's obsession with dresses! with! pockets!
The very relatable sentiment was echoed by plenty of fans, with another tweeting: "Love the symbolism of a strong, modern woman reflected here – every woman loves a dress with pockets!" A third fan of the Duchess wrote: "The first and most important thing I noticed about this photo is that the Duchess of Cambridge was given a dress with pockets. High street designers, please take note."
Hard relate. Anyone else thinking we should start a petition to officially have all dresses made with pockets? We're sure Kate would be keen to sign.
But, this isn't the first time the Duchess has shown she's more like the rest of us than we've been lead to believe. Back in 2018 the then 36-year-old got her high-heeled shoe caught in a grate, and not too long after, she had to manage a meltdown of epic proportions, courtesy of daughter Princess Charlotte after a long flight – something which we're sure plenty of mums can empathise with.
Perhaps most relatable of all, however, is how she chooses to unwind after a long day – with a gin and tonic in hand, delivered by Prince William himself. Big, big, big vibe.
