Fans call out ITV's My Mum, Your dad for mirroring Love Island's casting choices
Viewers tuning into ITV's cherished show My Mum, Your Dad shared a collective grievance as they voiced concerns that the newest series neglected to showcase contestants with more diverse body sizes.
The hit dating programme returned for a captivating new season on Monday evening (September 16), with the delightful Davina McCall steering the ship. In the feel-good format, a new assortment of unwed mothers and fathers embarked on romantic dates and gradually acquainted themselves within the idyllic confines of a rural retreat, all under their offsprings observant gaze.
While many were engrossed by the show's latest instalment, certain viewers couldn't help but spot a trend towards a Love Island aesthetic, suggesting it eroded the show's genuine charm. Disappointed fans immediately took to social media to express their views.
One user remarked: "I know we wanted a Love Island for the older people, but we also asked for it to be for the 'Normal' people. All these are older versions of the Love Island Casts. Where's my size 18 sis and dad bod pappi?"

Echoing similar sentiments, another stated: "First series was so wholesome... second series- now they know how it works it's like a grown up Love Island. Big hair, beige, sports jackets and smooth foreheads," reports the Mirror.
A different viewer inquired: "Will we see any parents over size 12?" Meanwhile, another chimed in, questioning: "Where these woman come from? Definitely not from #Tinder #Bumble #Plenttoffish. Not 1 with body fat. #mymumyourdad."
Although some viewers lodged complaints, there was a wave of enthusiasm for the love-matching show's latest series return. The nostalgia-evoking soundtrack, featuring hits from the 80s and early 90s, earned particular praise from the audience.
Fans didn't hold back their excitement, as one viewer expressed: "One of the best parts of this show, the tons of 80s songs they play throughout the episodes."
Another was keen to express their appreciation: "Moment of appreciation for the song choices."
Echoing the sentiment, a third chimed in: "This is one of the very few programs I actually like, but.....outstanding soundtrack!!" Concurring with these viewpoints, yet another viewer added their voice: "The soundtrack they use for this show is epic. It's on par with the Gavin and Stacey soundtrack."
As the first episode aired, viewers were introduced to the new line-up of parents navigating the complexities of romance. As the episode progressed, their kids stepped in to play matchmaker, selecting who would pair up with whom for the inaugural dates.
