Fake charity workers are attempting to take cash from shoppers in Wallingford, police have warned.

Thames Valley Police (TVP) is warning against scammers in the town centre and nearby Waitrose with individuals reportedly claiming to be from charities asking for cash.

Officers are advising shoppers to not leave personal details to give cash to individuals if they are unsure of their authenticity.

⚠️ ATTENTION WALLINGFORD ⚠️ There are currently scams taking place in the town centre and nearby to Waitrose involving individuals, claiming to be from charities, asking for cash. If you are ever unsure, please do not leave your personal details or give cash to these individuals.

A TVP statement issued on Wednesday said: "There are currently scams taking place in the town centre and nearby to Waitrose involving individuals, claiming to be from charities, asking for cash.

"If you are ever unsure, please do not leave your personal details or give cash to these individuals."

If you’ve been the victim of a scam, fraud or online crime (cybercrime) you can report it to Action Fraud online or by calling 0300 123 2040.

Action Fraud is the national reporting centre for fraud and cybercrime.

It collects reports about fraud on behalf of the police in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. For fraud in Scotland please report it directly to Police Scotland.
