Sergio Aguero appeared to lash out at a supporter after Manchester City’s FA Cup exit to Wigan ended with nasty scenes at the DW Stadium.

The Football Association is poised to launch an investigation this morning to address the chaotic scenes that followed the conclusion of the 1-0 win for the Lactics.

A pitch invasion led to the confrontation between Aguero and the fan as the Argentina striker seemed to swing an arm angrily in reaction to being accosted.

There were also reports Aguero, 29, claims to have been spat at.

Manchester City supporters could also be in hot water after ripping up advertising hoardings in the away end as Wigan fans goaded their counterparts.

Wigan chairman David Sharpe told the BBC: “It is not nice to see. Football is emotional, it is what it does to fans. But I don’t like to see this at the end of the game.

“It is a massive result, but we have to stay classy in football. I don’t like what I am seeing here.”

It was a fiery affair and tempers began to boil over when Fabian Delph was sent off for a challenge on Max Power in the first half.

The two managers, Pep Guardiola and Paul Cook, clashed on the touchline in the moments that followed the controversial decision.

They continued their disagreement in ugly scenes captured by TV cameras in the tunnel as they had to be separated by coaching staff as they headed into the changing rooms.

City will now speak to Wigan in the coming days to demand an explanation of why supporters were allowed onto the pitch.

The FA will wait to receive referee Anthony Taylor’s report before deciding whether to take action against the managers for their behaviour.

Asked about the sending off Guardiola said: “Red card. It was a red card, yeah… The ref decides what he decides.”

“Guys, you want to ask me about football? Nothing happened in the tunnel.”
