  • Former health secretary Jeremy Hunt has broken his arm after falling over while out running.

  • Hunt has thanked the staff at his local hospital, Royal Surrey Hospital, for their 'wonderful care'.

Former health secretary Jeremy Hunt appeared via video link today at a Parliamentary debate with his arm in a sling after he tripped and fell when out running on Thursday morning. The UK has been experiencing cold weather, with ice and snow in the past week, which could have contributed to the fall.

Hunt thanked the staff at the Royal Surrey Hospital for their 'wonderful care' when treating him for a broken arm.

In the Parliamentary debate, Hunt praised the new proposals for restructuring the NHS, which aims to see health and care services working more closely together. Labour has questioned the timing of said changes, 'in the middle of the biggest public health crisis our NHS has ever faced' when staff are already exhausted.

Hunt asked how the new integrated system will be held accountable, to which his successor, Matt Hancock, replied that there would be accountability 'up from the ICS, through NHS England, to ministers and therefore to Parliament. And from Parliament, through our democratic processes, to taxpayers'.
