Even since 2011 when Emma Watson admitted she had a crush on Tom Felton, Harry Potter fans have been obsessed with the relationship between the two and their characters Hermione Granger and Draco Malfoy. Whether it's shipping their characters together in fan-fiction or hoping the two actors are in a relationship in real life, there's just something about seeing the pair together that makes all Potter fans wish for a romance between them.

Over the years the pair have given snippets of insight into their relationship together. A cosy picture on the sofa in pyjamas together sent fans wild in 2019. And more recently Emma declared Tom her "soulmate" in the foreword of his memoir. However, they've always said they are just friends despite their close bond. Why are they breaking our hearts like this?

They've said a lot of very nice things about each other, some of which have led fans to believe they are something more than just friends.

And so, this is everything Tom Felton and Emma Watson have said about each other over the years.

Tom said Emma encouraged him to write his memoir

During the promo tour for his new memoir Beyond the Wand: The Magic and Mayhem of Growing Up a Wizard Tom revealed it had been Emma who encouraged him to write his memoir and be direct about his experiences.

In an interview with the Independent Tom said: "I was encouraged by a few people, Emma Watson specifically, to tell the whole story and not just sort of cherry-pick the fluffy bits.

“Not just because it was cathartic for me. But also in the hope that sharing those parts of my story will help others that are maybe not going through the best time."

Tom said he and Emma have no problems with fans shipping them together

Emma and Tom's relationship has long been a subject of fascination to Harry Potter fans, who are basically desperate for them and their characters, Hermione Granger (Emma Watson) and Draco Malfoy (Tom Felton) to get together.

And during his interview with the Independent, Tom said he and Emma are well aware of all the shipping that goes on from fans, and they're chill about it, "I know Emma and I don’t have any problems with it," he told the site.

Emma called Tom her 'soulmate'

Emma added serious fuel to the fire she and Tom were more than friends when she penned the foreword to his new memoir Beyond the Wand: The Magic and Mayhem of Growing Up a Wizard. In her four-page foreword (yes four pages!) she described the special relationship she has with Tom, describing him as her "soulmate" and addressed the speculation they've had over the years that their relationship is romantic.

She wrote: "Like Tom, I always struggle to explain to people the nature of our connection and relationship. For more than 20 years now, we've loved each other in a special way, and I've lost count of the times that people have said to me, 'You must have drunkenly made out, just once!' But we what we have is far deeper than that.

"It's one of the purest loves I can think of. We're soulmates, and we've always had each other's backs. I know we always will."

In the rest of her foreword she is incredibly complimentary of Tom, calling him "creative, sensitive and wholehearted."

Emma also praises his writing abilities, saying he is a "poet" and complimented him on the way his mind works. Our hearts can't take it.

Tom said he had a 'secret love' for Emma

Sadly, the secret love Tom said he had for Emma was strictly platonic. During his memoir Tom wrote extensively about his relationship with Emma and said they didn't "start well" when they met as children on the set of Harry Potter.

However, he said he went onto have a "secret love" for Emma, clarifying: "Though not perhaps in the way that people might want to hear. That isn't to say there's never been a spark between us. There most definitely has, only at different times."

Tom also added: "I don't think I was ever in love with Emma, but I loved and admired her as a person in a way that I could never explain to anybody else." So. Damn. Cute.

Emma said she 'fell in love' with Tom on the set of Harry Potter

The Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return To Hogwarts at the beginning of 2022 was emotional for a bunch of reasons, Robbie Coltrane saying Hagrid will always be there for one, but one of the biggest heart warming revelations was Emma Watson admitting to falling in love with Tom Felton on the set of Harry Potter.

She recalled the moment saying it happened during one of their lessons on set, and they were asked to draw what they think God looked like. And what did Felton draw? Well a girl with a backward cap on a skateboard. No wonder Emma fell in love.

Emma described the moment she fell saying: "And I just don't know how to say it – I just fell in love with him. I used to come in every day and look for his number on the call sheet, it was number seven, and if his name was on the call sheet, it was an extra exciting day."

Tom said he was protective of Emma and described their relationship as 'kinship'

During the reunion Tom spoke of Emma's crush on him when they were younger and said he thought of her as a little sister and became very protective of her.

He said: ""I think I was in the hair and make-up chair and someone said something along the lines of, 'Yeah, she had a crush on you'.

"I became very protective over her. Yeah, I've always had a soft spot for her and that continues to this day. There's always been something that's like, I don't know, a kinship."

Tom described Emma as a 'fantastic influence on the world'

Sorry, but imagine being called a 'fantastic influence on the world'? I would melt into a giant puddle.

Tom used these very kind words about Emma during an interview with Entertainment Tonight when he was asked his about his relationship with Emma.

Tom said they "were something" but went onto clarify he did onto mean romantically.

He told ET: "We are something, if that makes any sense. We've been very close for a long time. I adore her. I think she's fantastic. Hopefully she returns the compliment.

"As far as the romantic side of it, I think that's a Slytherin/Gryffindor thing rather than a Tom and Emma thing.

"I absolutely think the world of her. I think to be a part of what we've all been a part of, but for her to be the only girl, certainly the youngest one on set, to grow up with what she had to grow up with was incredibly exciting. You're going to get me teary now, but no, I think she's a fantastic influence on the world."

Tom said he loved Emma's self partnered statement

Way back in 2019 Emma Watson said she was "self-partnered" in an interview with British Vogue when asked about her relationship status. And shortly after Tom Felton was asked what he thought of her declaration by the Daily Mail.

Tom praised Emma's statement and said he was in the same boat, "I like it! It’s the first I’ve heard of it, but it’s great. I’m in the same category to be honest with you, quite happily self-partnered," he told the site.

He went onto say he often runs into Emma in Los Angeles and they go for dinner together.

Tom added: "She’s an incredibly smart and lovely young lady, so it’s always nice to bump into each other and slightly reminisce about old times but also about looking forward to the future."

Emma said Tom was her first crush

It was the comment that set in motion a load of rumours the two were more than just friends. Back in 2011 Emma admitted in an interview with Seventeen Magazine her first crush was Tom Felton.

"For the first two movies, I had a huge crush on Tom Felton. He was my first crush. He totally knows. We talked about it—we still laugh about it. We are really good friends now, and that's cool," she told the magazine.
