Fans of dystopian fiction will likely have read - and loved - Naomi Alderman’s 2016 novel The Power, a gripping thriller set in a world where women can send electrical currents from their hands.

The story won the Baileys Women’s Prize and was selected as a book of the year by Barack Obama in 2017, so it's perhaps unsurprising it's being turned into a TV series.

Here's what we know about Amazon Prime Video's adaptation of The Power...

The Power: What's it about?

Amazon's official synopsis of the show says:

"The world of The Power is our world, but for one twist of nature. Suddenly, and without warning, all teenage girls in the world develop the power to electrocute people at will. It’s hereditary, it’s inbuilt, and it can’t be taken away from them. Coming alive to the thrill of pure power: The ability to hurt or even kill by releasing electrical jolts from their fingertips, they rapidly learn they can awaken the Power in older women. Soon enough nearly every woman in the world can do it. And then everything is different."

The Power: Who's in it?

The series boasts an impressive ensemble cast, led by Leslie Mann (Knocked Up, This Is 40) in the role of Margot Cleary-Lopez, a Seattle politician on the rise. John Leguizamo plays her husband Rob, and Auli’i Cravalho stars as their daughter Jos.

The latest wave of cast announcements came in February 2021, when it was revealed Rob Delaney, Alice Eve and Edwina Findley will play news anchors Tom and Kristen and Margot's trusted advisor Helen, respectively.
