With one flash of a Miu Miu coat, vice president Kamala Harris’s step-daughter Ella Emhoff put herself on the map as the presidential inauguration’s unexpected style star. As soon as she walked onto the U.S. Capitol balcony in her checked coat, complete with a white lace collar and sparkly yellow crystal beading, Twitter went wild.
“OBSESSED with Ella Emhoff’s coat,” one person wrote. “The shoulder embellishments on Ella Emhoff’s coat? I smell a style icon in the making,” another remarked, while someone else wrote, “I would like to see more discourse about Ella Emhoff’s coat and the upcoming Bedazzled shoulder trend bc I’m READY.”
Twitter went wild when Emma stepped out in this Miu Miu coat
We fell in love with it, too - and went on the hunt for details. The coat is from Miu Miu’s autumn/winter 2020 collection, and we found a similar version on Farfetch for a whopping $4,995. As for what Ella wore under her coat, she sported a burgundy, floor-length Batsheva Moire’ dress. In a photo Kamala’s niece, Meena Harris, shared to her Instagram Story, Ella could be seen standing at Meena’s side in the dress (Meena wore a similar frilled dress).

Ella also brought it when she visited the Lincoln Memorial on Inauguration Eve, rocking a navy, double-breasted Thom Browne trench coat paired with a button-down shirt, striped tie, and a multi-colored striped, pleated skirt. Much like inauguration day, it was a styled-up look that looked so effortless. Ella's mom, Kerstin Emhoff, shared a photo of the 21-year-old on Instagram, with the caption, “Here we go!”

Needless to say, when inauguration watchers caught wind of her Inauguration eve look, they swooned all over again. “I am looking forward to more Ella Emhoff’s looks. Omg Thom browne and Miu Miu. She knows her statement coats,” one person wrote. “Kamala Harris’ stepdaughter Ella Emhoff wearing Thome Browne and an embellished coat. Let me tell you, I am excited for the next four years,” Twitter fashion account @hautelemode wrote.
Still, it shouldn’t be too much of a surprise that Ella is quite the fashionista. She is a student at Parsons School of Design, and designs knitwear (she was accepting custom commissions, but her bio now reads “commissions closed” and her website is under construction). She also dabbles in painting artistic pieces.
We cannot wait to see what’s in store as Ella brings her style to the White House.
