Belly buttons remain a mystery. They come in many different forms – from innies and outies to in-betweenies – and serve no real purpose in our day-to-day lives.

However, we are all intrigued by the little hole in the middle of our bellies, which can lead to us giving it a bit of a poke on occasion, leaving us with a bizarre strange tingling sensation.

Up until now, we haven’t been able to put our finger on the mysterious feeling. However, if you give it a minute, you will probably find that you have a sudden urge to pee.

Yes, it has been revealed that touching the inside of your belly button makes you feel like nature is calling.

Doctor Christopher Hollingsworth of NYC Surgical Associates recently explained to Lad Bible that our belly buttons are filled with fibres, so when you poke inside, “it sends a signal from the deeper fibres that line your inner abdominal cavity to your spinal cord.”

However, it’s not your spinal cord that gives you the sensation. Doctor Hollingsworth continues to explain: “Because your spinal cord is at that level also relaying signals from your bladder and urethra, it feels almost the same. You interpret this as discomfort in your bladder.”

So, although touching your belly button won’t actually make you need to go to the toilet, it sure will make you feel like you do. Yet another mystery.
