Evan Rachel Woods has accused Marilyn Manson of abuse during their three-year relationship. The singer has denied the claims, calling them "horrible distortions of reality".
Wood has discussed her experience of rape and domestic abuse before, but has never disclosed the identity of the perpetrator. Yesterday, 1 February, she alleged that Manson, real name Brian Warner, was the abuser.
"The name of my abuser is Brian Warner, also known to the world as Marilyn Manson," the Westworld actress claimed. "He started grooming me when I was a teenager and horrifically abused me for years. I was brainwashed and manipulated into submission."
She continued: "I am done living in fear of retaliation, slander, or blackmail. I am here to expose this dangerous man and call out the many industries that have enabled him, before he ruins any more lives. I stand with the many victims who will no longer be silent."
Wood and Manson began dating in 2007, when she was 19 and he was 37. In 2009, following their split in 2008, Manson told an interviewer: “I have fantasies every day about smashing her skull in with a sledgehammer.”
Four other women, Ashley Walters, Sarah McNeilly, Ashley Morgan and Gabriella (with no surname given), have also accused the singer of abusive behaviour via public Instagram posts. The accusations include physical, emotional and sexual abuse.
Manson shared the following denial on his own Instagram page: “Obviously, my art and my life have long been magnets for controversy, but these recent claims about me are horrible distortions of reality,” he wrote.
“My intimate relationships have always been entirely consensual with like-minded partners. Regardless of how – and why – others are now choosing to misrepresent the past, that is the truth.”
The singer's record label, Loma Vista Recordings, has since dropped him. “Loma Vista will cease to further promote his current album effective immediately,” a statement read. “Due to these concerning developments, we have also decided not work with Marilyn Manson on any future projects.”
