Eva Mendes has responded to the backlash over her partner Ryan Gosling's platinum blond look for the Barbie movie.

During an appearance on The Talk on Monday, the Hitch star was asked about the backlash over Gosling's Ken transformation. In a first-look photo released earlier this month, The Notebook actor has platinum hair and a deep tan and is wearing a sleeveless denim jacket, jeans, and pants with a "Ken" waistband.

Addressing the online criticism about the look, Mendes responded, "Yeah, well, people do know he's not playing a real person, right? He's playing a fake person."

While the reaction may have been mixed, the actress was a big fan of the look, saying, "Well, first of all, I saw the photo and the 14-year-old in me was like, 'Ahhh.' But you know, it's a funny photo and he's trying to be funny. So it worked on all levels."

She went on to reveal that she asked Gosling to bring the underwear home and he did - and she was wearing it on the talk show.

"But when I saw (the photo), he sent it to me from work and I said, 'Can I please have that underwear? Please. I never ask for anything'... So, anyways, I do have it. I'm wearing it right now. There was something about the image that sparked my little teenage (self)."

Gosling is starring alongside Margot Robbie as Barbie in Greta Gerwig's upcoming movie. They have been snapped by paparazzi filming scenes in California this week.

He has been dating Mendes since 2011 and they share two daughters.
