Espresso tonics are a thing and yes, we want one
Coffee is forever trying to find new ways to infiltrate our lives and we're never going to be angry for it. But there are some coffee trends that even we find a little, well, strange.
Introducing espresso tonics, a new drink that fills the gap somewhere between your iced coffee addiction and your 7pm G&T.
The Metro first brought our attention to the strange new world, which is literally all over Instagram thanks to the hashtag #EspressoTonics.
Considering us Brits like our tea made properly (in a mug, with just one English breakfast tea bag, thank you very much) and our coffee to look like coffee, it's no surprise that this trend is largely taking off over in the States. But when there's the opportunity for a great Instagram pic, the threat of a UK takeover is never far away.
It seems the trick to making this hybrid drink is fairly simple: take one cup of tonic water and add a shot of espresso. Our face is literally cringing just thinking about all that bitterness.
This person is even adding orange peel to theirs.
And just in case the coffee and tonic isn't bitter enough, there's always lime...
We're really not sure how to feel about the drink but part of us is hoping it is the summer coffee drink that was always missing in our lives.
