Esme Young reveals the touching family connection behind her necklace
The Great British Sewing Bee is one of our favourite craft shows on TV, and this week's episode saw judges Esme Young and Patrick Grant decide which sewers had made it to the final.
And Esme wore a very special piece of jewellery on the sewing show, hosted by Sara Pascoe. She donned a large silver necklace made up of discs of coiled wire, with a pearl in the centre of each disc.
Esme posted a picture of the necklace on Instagram and explained the family connection behind it. She said: "This necklace was made for me by my sister. Guess what she called it ? It s [sic] got pearls on it from a necklace of my mum s [sic] Not real pearls".
In her memoir 'Esme Young: Behind the Seams', Esme reveals she has an older sister, Fiona, as well as younger brothers Christopher, Angus and Jeremy.
The necklace looks like it's made up of silver wire knitted in the round using circular needles, with clear beads worked into the stitches and a mother of pearl bead sewn into the centre of each disc.
Fans of the Sewing Bee were quick to compliment Esme on her necklace. @shelburyuk commented: "What a talented sister. It's beautiful and stunning on the show".
Others agreed, with @sarah_ivinson commenting: "That's absolutely beautiful. I love the structured fragility of the knitting, and it frames the pearls so well."
Some were keen to try to guess the name of the piece, with @mcgregor.linda commenting: "'Mums Treasure'? I couldn’t take my eyes off it last night, it’s so beautiful. What a talented family."
Whatever the name of the necklace, it's clear that creativity runs in Esme's family!
The Great British Sewing Bee final airs on Wednesday 26 July at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
