Erm, so it turns out the average penis size is getting bigger...

If you woke up this morning and thought: 'What's up in the penis world?' Then you're in luck. A new study has revealed that there's been some big (literally) changes when it comes to penises.

In fact, last month researchers at Stanford Medical School found that the average penis size has grown over the past three decades. Using data from 75 different studies (that spanned 1942 to 2021 and involved over 55,000 people) the experts found a 24% increase in the average length of an erect penis length over a 29-year period – a trend they saw around the globe.

"What we found was quite different from trends in other areas of male fertility and health. Erect penile length is getting longer, from an average of 4.8 inches to six inches, over the past 29 years," Michael Eisenberg, a professor of urology at Stanford Medicine, said of the findings.

For many, the news was pretty exciting, but not everyone was of the same mindset – namely, Eisenberg himself.

"If we’re seeing this fast of a change, it means that something powerful is happening to our bodies. We should try to confirm these findings, and if confirmed, we must determine the cause of these changes," the expert said. Eisenberg pointed out some of the potential causes for this drastic change, noting how humanity's increased exposure to pesticides and chemicals (commonly found in everyday hygiene products) could be a factor.

According to Eisenberg, chemicals from products like these could interrupt the hormone levels found in our bodies, adding that exposure to these chemicals might mean children are going through puberty at younger ages, therefore impacting genital development.

Because of this, Eisenberg and his team emphasise the need for regular check-ins when it comes to penis size. "Just as we measure height and weight every year... this [penis size] is something else we could measure in a systematic fashion because it may turn out to be an early indicator of changes in human development," Eisenberg said.

Growing penises aside, let's remember: size isn't everything. All bodies are beautiful, no matter how big or small they are – and that includes penises too. Yep, we're living in the penis positivity era... and we're loving it!
