Manchester City striker, Erling Haaland has shared how he tapes his mouth shut when he sleeps and wears blue-light-blocking glasses three hours before he goes to bed.

Haaland revealed details of his unique bedtime routine on Logan Paul's Impaulsive podcast, explaining how it ensures he gets quality shut-eye.

'Sleep is the most important thing in the world,' Haaland said. 'To sleep good, [I do] simple things [like wearing] blue blocking glasses, and shutting out all the signals in the bedroom.'

'To do a lot of things is not good but to do small things every single day for a longer period really pays off,' the Norwegian striker added.

Haaland might be onto something there. Evidence published in Building and Environment suggests that a sleeping environment that's cool and dark benefits our sleep quality.

'You should try and tape your mouth. I sleep with it,' Haaland also told Paul.

It's likely that the striker tapes his mouth shut during sleep to promote nasal breathing. This is a method used to remedy sleep apnea and sleep disorders. Recent evidence, published in the journal Healthcare, suggests that mouth taping could be a preliminary solution before surgery for obstructive sleep apnea.

Another study, published in the journal Sleep, mentioned that sleep quality can be negatively effected by mouth breathing. While these findings are interesting, more research is needed to form concrete recommendations for the general public.

'I have [a sauna] at my home so I try and do it not every single day but almost every day. Sauna, steam room,' Haaland also said on the podcast.

The use of saunas has long been used by athletes to promote recovery post training. In a review published by Mayo Clinic Proceedings, it was revealed how the use of saunas could also positively affect cardiovascular health. Evidence suggests that using the sauna could improve sleep and mental wellbeing, which is why Haaland includes them in his routine.

The striker's appearance on Impaulsive isn't the first time he's shared details about his off-the-wall lifestyle habits. He previously said he enjoys a diet of heart, liver, milk and his father's home cooked lasagne and eats around 6000 calories a day.

'I think eating quality food that is as local as possible is the most important,' said Haaland on his documentary Haaland: The Big Decision.

'A lot of things influence health. For example, people talk about meat not being healthy. Which meat? The meat you get at McDonald’s? Or the local cow eating grass right over there?' Haaland added.

We're sure the star striker must be doing something right from his goal scoring track record, but for now we'll be leaving the cows and gaffer tape alone.
