She was shopping in Bandra when Erika Packard was spotted by a modelling scout. After some convincing, Packard, daughter of the 90s Bollywood actor Gavin Packard, agreed to give modelling a shot. She has since appeared in several commercial shoots, on the pages of editorial glossies such as GQ and Elle among others.

Erika is seen here in the Nike x Off-White Rubber Dunk sneakers. Off-White is a luxury fashion label founded by Virgil Abloh. Abloh is an American designer best known for this streetwear and now as the artistic director of Louis Vuitton. The sneakers on Erika Packard are a collaboration between his company, Off-White and the sportswear giant Nike. They bring together elements of the Nike Pegasus line and the Nike Dunk as a hat tip to Nike’s legacy and skateboarding’s history of experimentation.

“Highlighting the Air is part of the early logic of the collaboration,” Virgil Abloh said of the design whn it dropped in February 2020. “The shoe is about incorporating past ideas in a new era — designing with purpose and cultural relevance to come up with something new.”

The Air unit is exposed at the heel and sits inside a cored out sole. It is one of Abloh’s favourite parts about the shoe design. “It’s safe to say one of the greatest inventions in modern footwear is Nike's approach to the idea of Air, and adding it as a cushioning element,” Abloh was reported as having said during the sneaker drop. “Air is foundational to my understanding of what innovation can look like.”

The upper part of the Nike x Off-White Rubber Dunk pays tribute to the late ’90s and early 2000s running shoes. So it features extra overlays, offsets and printing that were a common feature of the sneakers of the time.

Nike x Off-White Rubber Dunk comes in three colours. The gold is a tribute to the 1996 Olympic Games that were held in Atlanta, USA; the white is homage to the colour schemes of the noughts and the black – the ones Erika Packard is wearing here – are as Abloh said “go-to for everyday life.”

The Nike x Off-White Rubber Dunk are available at prices starting Rs 38,978.
