Yesterday was a pretty big deal for America; it was the inauguration of Joe Biden, the country's 46th President, simultaneously marking the end of Donald Trump's four year reign, during which the country became very divided.

The former big man himself Donald Trump was noticeably absent from the occasion, having chosen to break centuries-worth of history and snub Biden by swerving it and having his own farewell ceremony instead. But aside from that, there was a pretty glittering guest list. Among attendees were Barack and Michelle Obama (looking👌 as always in her berry trouser suit), Bernie Sanders making us all LOL with his adorable choice of mittens, Lady Gaga in one hell of a skirt, and Bill and Hillary Clinton.

But sadly for Bill Clinton, who was president of the US between 1993 and 2001, an unfortunate pan of the camera during the inauguration ceremony caught him looking very much... asleep. Oops.

We get it, the stress of the pandemic is disrupting a lot of people's sleep right now, but Clinton appeared to be hit with an unavoidable wave of tiredness in the middle of Biden's speech, looking like he couldn't keep his eyes open, the poor love.

In the clip, new president Joe Biden can be heard saying, "Leaders who have pledged to honour our constitution and protect our nation; to defend the truth, and defeat the lies." But as the camera scans the audience, oh - there's Bill Clinton with his eyes looking very much closed.

But look, maybe it was just a bad angle, as the former president looks pretty awake in all the other photos of him from the day.

Regardless of whether Clinton was asleep or not, Twitter didn't let it slip through the net, with numerous people pointing out what had happened. "Bill Clinton is really asleep rn," posted one person alongside a video of the awkward moment. "Aaaaaand Bill Clinton’s asleep," wrote another.

And largely it seemed people were pretty into it, to be honest. "Bill Clinton falling asleep, I'm with the energy," shared one tweeter. "Bill Clinton falling asleep at the inauguration is the best thing I’ve ever seen," added another.

Imagine how excited he was to roll into his hotel bed last night.
