How to enjoy your favourite restaurants during lockdown 2.0

As the government, once again, advises us to self-isolate due to the current health crisis, the hospitality industry has been hit hard, with widespread job losses putting many thousands of livelihoods at risk. To show us that they are still at your service, some of London’s finest chefs, bakers, hotels and powerhouse institutions have all been busy behind the scenes, uploading their menus and adapting their approaches for the take-away world, so you can all still enjoy your favourite dishes from the comfort of your own home.

From Circolo Popolare to glitzy hotel the Connaught and some amazing local favourites, here are just some of the capital's restaurants coming to a doorstep near you.

Italian bites

  • Soho institution Lina Stores have announced they will help Londoners weather the storm by providing their knockout Italian produce nationwide. Buy it all on their website.

  • Padella has launched pasta kits crafted by the restaurant’s expert pasta makers. Pasta is hand rolled fresh each day and sauces, including their renowned 8-hour Dexter beef shin ragu, are simmered slowly to ensure maximum flavour.

  • Cafe Murano have launched 'The Italian Supper’ menu box, with Angela Hartnett designing a menu of classic Italian dishes, including antipasti, primo and a spectacular secondo of lamb neck stew.

  • Delivery is still available from all four Ottolenghi delis for the ultimate salad and sweet treat fixes served alongside a fine selection of bottled cocktails.

  • Pasta Evangelists will be releasing a new menu of ten dishes throughout Lockdown 2.0 bringing a dash of much needed Italiana to our kitchens. Each box includes fresh handmade pasta, an authentic Italian sauce, garnishes, plus instructions on how to put the whole thing together.

  • Big Mamma Group, the wild, party-crazed Italians behind restaurants Gloria, Circolo Popolare and newbie to the scene Napoli Gang are bashing out pizzas, pastas and some seriously good tiramisu on Uber Eats. 1% of profits will be donated to all the delivery drivers transporting their food across the capital, too.

  • Carluccio's Sicilian arancini with spinach and smoked mozzarella, lasagna and its lunch favourite, the freshly grilled tuna Niçoise salad are just a handful of dishes on offer for delivery or Click & Collect.

  • Desperate for a 20-inch pizza? Homeslice has recently announced that the brand's Take & Bake pizzas are now available nationwide, along with their knockout drizzle-over-pie sauces.

  • Pomp up the pantry courtesy of family run Vallebona’s nommy Grazing boxes stuffed with everything from sardinian pasta, to tuscan sausages, jarred artichokes, antipasti and a delicious selection of cheeses, and Festino. They supply to the likes of the River Café, Bocca di Lupo, Alain Ducasse at the Dorchester and Le Gavroche, so trust us, it’s good.

  • Bancone is finally delivering at-home kits to pasta lovers within a five-mile radius of Soho. Choose between bucatini with cacio e pepe, mafalde with pork and n’duja ragu, or spinach and ricotta mezzaluna ravioli.

Posh eats

  • Hakkasan at home has returned delivering an exquisite taste of Cantonese classics, with highlights including the Crispy duck salad, Rib eye with lily bulb and black bean sauce and a selection of dim sum and wok dishes.

  • COYA Mayfair's delivery and new wine offering returns to Londoner's homes for both lunch and dinner. Ceviches and exclusive wines, selected by Head Chef Chef Alessandro Scala and bartenders are part of the deal.

  • For a taste of Anatolia, Rüya has now switched to home delivery via Supper London and Deliveroo. Expect Shish Tavuk - yogurt and child marinated grilled chicken; and a rather mean Adana Kebap - spicy minced lamb and burnt tomato and Truffle Cheese Pide topped with truffle butter and a slow cooked organic egg.

  • Swanky Shard hangout Oblix is offering three of its signature dishes to Londoners who live within a three-mile radius of London Bridge. They include the burrata, Whole burrata with olives & datterini tomatoes, the Wagyu burger from the grill New York cheesecake, crowned with blackberries & hazelnut.

  • Anyone who lives in zone 1 can make a steal with a Le Deli Robuchon hamper. Selected range of wines, teas, cheeses, chocolates and condiments included. Famed department store Harrods has flung together a new online delivery service. Add lush produce, luxe treats and the world’s most finest to your Supper shopping cart from today. 60 ‘Ready-to-eat’ or ‘ready-to-heat’ suppers, all cooked to perfection by Harrods chefs and delivered directly to your door, are also available.

  • Michelin-starred Pied à Terre in Fitzrovia launched a Vegan Feast delivery service over the last lockdown which has continued ever since. Three-course menus are available for a rather reasonable £50 and can be delivered to your home Friday or Saturday night. The menu changes weekly, so don’t expect to eat the same thing twice.

  • Fallow, the sustainable-minded restaurant on Heddon Street will deliver a host of their signatures dishes this November. Corn Ribs, burgers including their tasty Ex-Dairy Cow Burger, and - of course - their Kombu Fries are must orders.

  • Bentley’s Oyster Bar & Grill are on call to deliver fresh oysters to your door in a nifty little hamper. Give them a call or enquire via their website.

  • Mayfair Indian favourite Benares is delivering delicious samosas, chaats and momos, spiced tandoor meats and seafood, rich curries and sharing biryanis via Supper, Uber Eats and Deliveroo.

  • Kerth Gumbs, Executive Chef of Ormer Mayfair and BBC Two’s Great British Menu 2020 Finalist has also joined the home delivery craze. Expect expertly executed British dishes using seasonal produce from land and sea, freshly foraged vegetables and an impressive ‘Sunday Special’ sharing roast for two.

  • Madera, the swish Mexican dining spot lodged high above the heavens in the Treehouse Hotel, is plating up dishes for the home via the supper delivery app, from Tuesday to Saturday. Go for Chef’s enchiladas.

  • Folie, the Golden Square restaurant to know, joins the Supper app offering its opulent menu of modern classics. The Highland Wagyu, frites & peppercorn sauce and Black truffle linguine is the way to go.

  • Chef Masaki Sugisaki’s Dinings SW3 will continue to bring the best of his signature dishes to Londoner’s doors with the recently launched Dinings at Home menu. DIY kits are packed with the finest, sustainable fish and seafood, nori sheets and sushi rice – enough in fact, to keep you full for days.

  • The French-Asian fusion restaurant Jean-Georges at the Connaught is firing up their furnaces: think cheesy truffle pizzas served in a signature Jean Jullien-designed pizza box. Orders can be made via the Supper app or for collection. Should you be blessed (or damned) with a sweet tooth, the hotel’s newly opened patisserie is open for takeaway, stocked with treats crafted by cake master Nicolas Rouzaud.

  • Sister hotel Claridge’s Davies and Brook restaurant returns with its much loved (and now iconic) CFC – aka, their elite version of a KFC family bucket. The whole roast chicken stuffed with brioche, black truffle and foie gras is rather nice, too.

  • Though way out in Somerset, the beloved the Newt in Somerset, returns with ‘Newt in a Box’, its smash hit delivery service. Autumnal hampers of healthy and nutritious comfort food, fresh from the estate are yours throughout all of London town.

  • Chef Tommy Banks of the Michelin-starred Black Swan in Olstead, North Yorkshire, has launched nationwide food-box delivery packed with homegrown treats and locally farmed produce. Seasonally-inspired fare in the form of three-course menus, including some rather fabulous festive kits, will keep the entire home happy.

Keep it local…

  • Bala Baya, headed up by chef Eran Tibi, is still cooking up traditional Israeli dishes to any London location. Choose from a selection of brunch dishes such as Shakshuka with eggs; Blackberry Pita French Toast, or Salt Baked Trout Shawarma, along with a trio of lunch and mezze dishes available to order too.

  • Industrial chic pizzeria Lardo’s disco ball oven is still baking the finest Hackney pizzas to order via app or telephone.

  • Planning a household-only shindig? Stock up on aperitifs and hor d’oeuvres from one of London’s most-loved party planners, the Social Pantry. Order Pantry Party Boxes. for a selection of savoury snacks, from zero-waste beetroot hummus, to Nocellara olives, homemade Nigella seed crackers and their signature Truffle and Pecorino mixed nuts.

  • Islington favourite, Hot Stone, is offering delivery across North London: razor-sharp maki rolls, new-style sushi and sashimi included.

  • If you’re in desperate need of booze, Moore House Cocktails are bottling eight premium bottles, from a mean Martini, Cristal Margarita, Old Fashioned, an Espresso Martini and WOW Negroni. Hit up their website for nationwide delivery.

  • Much-loved South London Portuguese restaurant, Bar Douro, have launched their delivery service which includes their Wine Club and Wine Shop, available on their website, in addition to food from the restaurants which is now available on Deliveroo.

  • In Notting Hill, Uli is delivering its Asian feasts to locals and beyond direct, or on the Deliveroo app. Spicy The Hunan Pork Dumplings are out of this world.

  • West London’s trendiest brunch spot Farmacy is delivering its vegan recipes to those craving a health kick. Plant-based organic dishes headline the offering, plus the must-try CBD-infused smoothie for a soothing snack.

  • Also in Notting Hill, Instagram favourite Farm Girl is still mashing up creative and very pretty dishes via Deliveroo and UberEats.

  • The Putney food and events business Dinner Ladies is also currently offering healthy and immune boosting food and produce to those who need it. Other initiatives include marinating meats and fish for people to eat and also freeze for another time along with putting together weekly food supply boxes.   • Hammersmith favourite, Sam's Riverside, goes full home delivery mode today, alongside a Sunday Roast collection starting this Sunday. Devon lobster roll, the delicious Sam’s burger, steak tartare and many more will all be available to enjoy on the sofa, with a great selection of wine and cocktails for delivery, too.

Spice up your palette…

  • Spice up your lockdown with the brand new ‘Feast at Home’ kits from Vivek Singh’s acclaimed Indian restaurant, The Cinnamon Club. Ready-to-cook festive kits are packed with everything you need to make the restaurant’s signature celebratory dishes at home, along with recipe cards and spice kits.

  • Gymkhana spices up lockdown mealtimes with critically-acclaimed dishes ranging from regional feats to a very tasty butter chicken masala. The restaurants will be delivering to select London neighborhoods only, including Mayfair, Paddington and Knightsbridge.

  • Independent Sri Lankan restaurant, Kolamba in Soho, have launched 'Kolamba At Home’. The bold and vibrant flavoured feasting boxes are lovingly pre-cooked by the restaurant chefs and simply need to be reheated. It's possible to choose from either a Chicken or Vegan option.

  • Hoppers delivery menu is still available via the Deliveroo app from three of its locations (King’s Cross, Soho, East). The bone marrow varuval with roti is non-negotiable.

  • Masala Zone is delivering to addresses within a 1.5mile radius of its restaurants, serving Indian street food, regional curries, biryanis, freshly made vegetables flavourful grills, and thali platters.
